They laughed at me at NIH, but I was onto something BIG!

Susan has facilitated more than 4,000 training sessions in major corporations, education and government organizations, and coached individuals and teams worldwide in person and on Zoom.

Susan began her career as a research psychologist at The National Institutes of Health (NIH). She wanted to discover what makes some people healthier and more successful than others, but after a year, she realized they were only studying ill and dysfunctional people. That wouldn’t give her the answer. After thinking about it for months, Susan raised her hand in one of NIH’s prestigious weekly conferences and proposed studying Highly Successful People (HSPs) as well. She thought they would be excited, but instead her whole audience laughed! Red-faced but undaunted, Susan spent the next 20 years shadowing ‘the greats of the planet’ and discovered they were using 10 Skills unconsciously. Next HSPs invited her to teach “their skills” to their own teams. The results were immediate and measurable!

Excited CEOs begged Susan to teach parents and teachers these Success Skills so “the next generation will be ready to succeed and lead when they enter the workplace … when we hire them! Then we can focus on teaching business and technical skills, on creating products and building teams.” So that’s what Susan did. She is the author of the Technology of Success Book Series which includes bestselling The Joy of Success, Success Has Gears, Our Children Are Watching, and BLUR: Clear the Way Ahead … Even in the Worst of Times. Her books are available on Amazon and Audible. Susan has developed Technology of Success programs for schools and colleges.

Twenty years later Susan was invited to give the keynote for the National Grant Management Association Conference. She told them about being laughed at at NIH early in her career. Afterward, when she was signing copies of her book The Joy of Success at the back table, a dozen people headed her way. With smiles on their faces they proclaimed, “We are the team that currently gives grants at NIH. We only wish we’d been there for you. This is exactly the kind of research we are doing now. You were just ahead of your time!”
